eclipse-platform software package provides Eclipse platform without development plug-ins, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install eclipse-platform
eclipse-platform is installed in your system.
Make ensure the eclipse-platform package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep eclipse-platform *
You will get with eclipse-platform package name, version, architecture and description in a table
